Camping with Showers: How to Have a Stress-Free Shower When Car Camping

It`s no secret that car camping is a fantastic way to get away from it all and unplug for a bit. But for some, one of the hardest tasks on their checklist is trying to figure out how to take a shower while camping. Well fear not, because with a little preparation and the right knowledge, it`s easy to have a stress-free shower when car camping.

What You`ll Need

If you`re planning on camping with showers, you`ll need a few crucial pieces of equipment. First and foremost, you`ll need a reliable water heater. You can either opt for a propane water heater, or a solar-powered one with a tank that you can fill with water. You`ll also need a shower tent or privacy shelter, which can be found at most sporting goods stores. Additionally, invest in a footpump, some collapsible shower buckets, and a garden hose.

Setting Up Your Campsite Shower

Once you`ve gathered all of your equipment, you`ll need to do some setting up. Attach your hose to the water heater and then set up the tent or privacy shelter. Be sure to place it in a location that is not too close to your campsite, as it will need to be kept well away from the fire. Once the tent is set up, you can begin filling up your shower buckets with warm water. If you`ve opted for a propane water heater, you`ll need to use the footpump to fill the shower buckets and deliver the hot water. For solar-powered heaters, you can just fill the buckets right from the water tank.

Setting Up Your Shower Station

Next, set up your shower station. Place a few towel racks inside the tent and then set up some plastic chairs outside of it where you can keep your clothes and other toiletries. Try to keep your shower station as organized and clutter-free as possible, as this will help ensure that you remember which item goes where when you`re packing up to leave. Additionally, this will also allow you to enjoy your shower experience just a bit more.

Showering Time

Now that the setup is complete, it`s time to shower! To maintain the water temperature, you`ll need to keep the hot water running while you shower. If you have a solar-powered water heater, make sure to keep the tank filled during your shower time, since solar-powered heaters tend to run out of hot water faster than propane ones. When you`re done showering, turn off the water and make sure to keep the door or entrance to the shower station open to allow the steam to escape. This will prevent mold and mildew from forming.

Cleaning Up After

After you`re done showering, it`s time to clean up. Take all your dirty clothes and towels and rinse them out in the nearby lake, river, or pond. If there is no source of water nearby, you can also take them to the nearest laundromat or car wash. When the clothes are all clean, you can hang them up to dry in the shade. If you have a solar-powered water heater, it`s also a good idea to refill the tank with water before going to sleep. This will help keep the water temperature consistent while you`re asleep.

Camping with showers doesn`t have to be a hassle. With the right preparation and equipment, car camping with showers can be an enjoyable and stress-free experience. Gather the necessary items, set up your shower station, and enjoy a hot shower before bed. After that, all that`s left is to revel in the peace and quiet of camp life.
